Adel Man’s Murder Conviction ‘A Stain’ on Georgia, Motion Says
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution features the latest developments in the case of Devonia Inman, a man convicted of murder in South Georgia and one of Troutman Sanders’ pro bono clients. Inman is serving a life-without-parole sentence for the 1998 murder of a Taco Bell night manager, even though DNA evidence discovered years after his trial strongly suggests another man committed the murder. A recent court motion filed by a team at Troutman Sanders presents a compelling case for a new trial based on Inman’s innocence and failures of the criminal justice system before, during and after the trial. Partner Tom Reilly is quoted in the story, saying, “We feel there have been a number of very serious constitutional violations of Mr. Inman’s rights. And we believe any reasonable juror looking at the totality of the evidence would have a reasonable doubt he committed this crime.” Reilly, David Chaiken, Tiffany Nichols Bracewell, Brea Croteau and Majda Muhic represent Inman in his habeas corpus petition. Associates Allie Smith, Chelsea Lamb, Kasia Hebda, Emily Wright, Bianca DiBella, Valerie Mock and Charles Thimmesch assisted.
