Connecticut tobacco shops facing state scrutiny
Hartford Courant
Richmond partner Bryan Haynes was quoted in a December 11, 2011, Hartford Courant (Connecticut) article about Connecticut tobacco shops facing state scrutiny over their roll-your-own cigarette machines.
The state claims the machines, which produce about 200 cigarettes in about eight minutes, are illegal if not operated with a cigarette manufacturer’s license and appropriate fees, tariffs and taxes paid.
“The advanced machines used by companies like Philip Morris and R.J. Reynolds will produce 20,000 cigarettes in a minute,” said Haynes, who represents RYO Machine LLC, the manufacturer of the machines in question. “We’re talking about horses and buggies vs. fighter jets.”
