Fellows Provide Access to Justice
Recently-retired Washington, D.C. partner Wally Christensen was profiled in the Summer 2014 American College of Trial Lawyers’ Journal in an article titled “Fellows Provide Access to Justice.”
Wally was profiled for his representation in the deportation case of “Diego,” a Mexican national who had been brought illegally into the country by his father and, through a series of circumstances, found himself in jail. He ultimately went to a juvenile facility in Miami, Florida, awaiting deportation. Wally came to Diego’s aid through his work with Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) – an organization founded by the Microsoft Corporation and actress Angelina Jolie to find, develop and train pro bono attorneys to represent children facing deportation, ensuring they get fair chances of making claims for U.S. protection. Eventually, Wally was able to get Diego’s application to remain in the United States granted.
Representing Diego “turned out to be one of the most gratifying experiences of my career,” he said.
