Getting Mad and Getting Busy, Vineyarder Led Fight to Save Sweet Briar College
Richmond partners Bill Hurd and Ashley Taylor were mentioned in a July 14 Vineyard Gazette article, which is a profile on Martha Vineyard resident Tracy Stuart, who is credited for kick starting the movement that lead to saving Sweetbriar College from closing. It was Stuart that contacted Bill and Ashley after she heard Sweetbriar College’s president announce in March that the school would be closing at the end of the spring semester, citing insurmountable financial obstacles despite its $85 million endowment.
“I asked [Bill and Ashley] if this was something we could fight, and they said, ‘yes, I think you have a case here,’” the paper stated Stuart said.
