Health reform and health data exchange-the overlooked connection
The Supreme Court has spoken. The President says that “health care reform is here to stay.” Gov. Romney pledges to repeal the ACA within 100 days of his inauguration. The list goes on.
What does it all mean? Health care reform is well underway in health systems and communities across the country. The move to accountable care and clinical integration is accelerating. Access to accurate and timely clinical data for caregivers and care mangers is essential to these efforts.
To meet the need for access to clinical data, Health Information Exchange Organizations (HIEOs) are being developed at a rapid pace. There are, however, very significant legal issues that must be addressed and overcome by those developing HIEOs.
In the linked article, published by BNA Health Law on June 21, 2012, we provide an overview of these legal issues. We hope that you find this article helpful as you think about and expand your data exchange activities. Please feel free to share it with others who you think would benefit from this information.
