KIND – Troutman Sanders 2012 Advocacy Day
Washington office managing partner Amie Colby, Immigration practice group leader and Atlanta partner Mark Newman and Troutman Sanders Strategies President of Federal Affairs Robert Leebern were mentioned in a May 8 KIND Blog article for their efforts at KIND and Troutman Sanders’ 2012 Advocacy Day held in Washington, D.C., on May 2.
KIND and the firm led six teams to Capitol Hill for 13 meetings with Congressional staffers during the advocacy day to gain support for vital services that help unaccompanied children in the United States, including the facilitation of pro bono representation.
Colby, Newman and Chief Judge Eric T. Washington of the D.C. Court of Appeals opened the day with introductions and a keynote address. Leebern and others held a panel discussion on how to best engage Congressional offices when talking about the needs and vulnerabilities of unaccompanied children.
The firm’s pro bono manager, Dorothy Stallworth, also was heavily involved in coordinating the successful event, which was attended by more than 30 attorneys from not only Troutman Sanders but also Kirkland & Ellis, Cooley, Dickstein Shapiro, Hughes Hubbard and Nixon Peabody.
