Raising a red flag: Addressing identity theft and its impact on providers
Richmond partner David Anthony, and Richmond associates Erin Whaley and Paige Fitzgerald had their article “Red Flags Rule Protects Patients: FTC Rule on Identity Theft Impacts
Providers” published in the American Academy of Professional Coders’ February Coding Edge magazine.
In this article, Anthony, Whaley and Fitzgerald discuss the impact of the Red Flags Rule, passed in 2007 by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other federal agencies, and its effect on how financial institutions and creditors
handle identity theft issues.
In particular, they explain how these rules will affect health care providers – a group that would normally not consider themselves governed by rules established for financial institutions or creditors.
