Richmond partner obtains numerous news mentions on e-cigarettes
Richmond partner Bryan Haynes was quoted in a February 26 NPR story, “ Lobbyists Amp Up Efforts to Sell Washington on E-Cigarettes” – regarding e-cigarettes and the lobbying efforts to regulate the e-cigarette industry. In examining how the government will ultimately regulate the battery-powered nicotine delivery systems, Haynes, who represents the Electronic Cigarette Industry Group (ECIG), argued that regulators should not push too hard on the industry. “We do want the public to have a comfort level that what the manufacturers say is in the product is actually accurate,” he said. “At the same time, we do not believe that e-cigarettes should be regulated in the same way traditional tobacco products are regulated.”
Bryan also was quoted in a February 27 Reason.com article, “ FDA Cigarette Regulations Protect Big Tobacco, Not Public Health,” a February 24 Law360 article, “ States Acting Hastily in Pushing E-Cigarette Taxes,” and a February 20 Reuters article, where he was quoted not just as a partner with Troutman Sanders, but also in his role as counsel for the Electronic Cigarette Industry Group (ECIG). Additionally, Bryan was quoted in a similar article in MarketWatch on February 5 – “CVS move won’t slow e-cigarettes sales.”
