Troutman Sanders Continues Corporate Expansion in Charlotte Office
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Alexander (“Alec”) F. Watson, a partner with significant private equity and M&A experience, has joined the firm’s Corporate and Private Equity/Investment Funds practices in the Charlotte office. He joins the firm from K&L Gates.
Watson advises private equity funds, along with both private and public companies, in connection with various equity and debt investments, acquisitions and divestitures, and other general corporate and financing transactions. He often serves as outside general counsel, advising clients on a variety of matters in the context of their business investments and growth strategies.
The firm is continuing to expand its private equity capabilities, which are focused, in particular, on the middle market. Watson is the latest partner to join the firm’s growing Private Equity/Investment Funds practice. In March, Kevin Christmas joined the firm’s Charlotte office, and in January, John McDonald joined the firm’s New York office.
“Alec brings sophisticated experience advising private equity funds and their portfolio companies,” said Andrea Farley, chair of the firm’s Corporate department. “His addition further strengthens our growing private equity/investment fund and strategic M&A practices and our broader corporate and financing capabilities.”
“We are very pleased that Alec has joined our team in Charlotte,” said Walter Fisher, managing partner of the firm’s Charlotte office. “His impressive corporate credentials and the breadth of his experience in the private equity space will be of tremendous benefit to our expanding transactional practice.”
Watson earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 2001. He received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University in 1998.
“I am delighted to join Troutman Sanders,” said Watson. “The firm’s outstanding reputation, entrepreneurial culture and national capabilities in areas that align with my clients’ investment strategies and broader business needs provide an excellent platform for continuing to expand the work I do for private equity funds and public and private companies.”
With the addition of Watson, the firm’s Charlotte office, which was established in May of 2014, now has 21 lawyers. The practice includes corporate, real estate, finance, litigation and energy.
