Troutman Sanders Partner Steven Gravely Contributes to Healthcare Information Management Systems Society’s “Book of the Year”
Richmond, Va., Feb 16, 2017 – Troutman Sanders partner Steven Gravely contributed a chapter to Health Information Exchange: Navigating and Managing a Network of Health Information Systems , which has received the Book of the Year Award from the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Gravely co-authored Chapter 4 of the book: “Engaging and Sustaining Stakeholders: Towards Governance.”
Published in March 2016, Health Information Exchange was edited by Brian Dixon, Ph.D., FHIMSS, an associate professor at Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health and a research scientist at the Regenstrief Institute. The book explores the opportunities and challenges associated with the electronic exchange of data and information across hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and other entities involved in healthcare.
The chapter co-authored by Gravely details the complexity of health information exchange (HIE) and the components required for building and sustaining effective governance of health information exchange activities. The chapter describes the necessity of establishing a governance framework to define data sharing rules, foster trust among stakeholders and to promote the flexibility needed to adapt to a changing healthcare environment.
The HIMSS Book of the Year Award honors a book that offers outstanding practical guidance and strategic insight for healthcare information and management systems professionals. The award will be presented to Dr. Dixon on February 21, 2017, at an awards gala held during the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition. Gravely will be presenting an educational session at the HIMSS Annual Meeting this year at which over 40,000 health information professionals, vendors and consultants will convene to share ideas and network. The session on February 20 entitled “Nationwide Trusted Exchange: Are We There Yet?” explores the progress made to date in developing sustainable health information sharing networks and identifies the challenges ahead. Gravely will co-present with Mariann Yeager, CEO of The Sequoia Project which operates the nationwide health information exchange.
