Trusts & Estates Practice Expands at Troutman Sanders
TYSONS CORNER, Va. – The law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Molly F. James as partner, and Michael D. Erickson and Tania S. Sebastian as associates, to the firm’s Trusts & Estates practice group in its Tysons Corner office.
The addition of James, Erickson and Sebastian will greatly expand Troutman Sanders’ Trusts & Estates practice group in the Northern Virginia/D.C. region. The firm already has a strong trust and estates presence in Atlanta, Richmond and New York.
Molly F. James comes to Troutman Sanders from Hogan & Hartson, where she started as an associate in 2000, and then later became partner and head of the firm’s trusts and estates practice.
At Troutman Sanders, James’ practice will cover all basic estate planning for clients, as well as assisting clients with business succession planning; dynasty trusts; estate planning with carried interests in venture capital funds; charitable planning; and the creation of trusts, LLCs and other structures to protect families from taxes and creditors, and create meaningful legacies. Additionally, she will guide clients through the estate administration process, and play the role of family advisor on many issues arising in a family's business.
James was named to Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite for Taxes/Estates/Trusts Law for the years 2005-2007 and served as tax advisor for the book Sell Your Business Your Way by Rick Rickertsen. She is also former chair of the board and current pro bono general counsel for College Bound, Inc., a nonprofit located in Washington, D.C., that tutors and mentors D.C. public school students and provides scholarships for college.
Prior to working at Hogan & Hartson, James was an associate with Mayer Brown & Platt in D.C. from 1993 to 1996 and McGuire Woods in Tysons Corner from 1996 to 2000.
She received a B.A., magna cum laude, in 1989 from Tufts University, and a J.D., magna cum laude, in 1992 from Georgetown University.
Michael D. Erickson and Tania S. Sebastian also come to Troutman Sanders from Hogan & Hartson. Erickson started there in 2002 and Sebastian in 2008, both as associates.
Erickson’s practice at Troutman Sanders will focus on federal income, estate, and gift taxation, including both domestic estate planning, and administration and international estate and trust planning. He received a B.A., with distinction, in 1997 from Yale University and a J.D. in 2002 from the University of Virginia.
Sebastian’s practice at Troutman Sanders will focus on federal income, estate and gift taxation, with a primary focus on estate planning and administration. She received an A.B., magna cum laude, in 1994 from Rollins College, a M.A. in 1996 from the University of Essex and a J.D., magna cum laude, in 2007 from the University of Florida.
