U.S. Supreme Court Rejects “Meaningful Attorney Involvement” Case
A blog post written by David Anthony, Alice Grabe and Ethan Ostroff was republished on May 9 by Inside ARM. The article details the ruling in Tawanda Jones v. David Sean Dufek, Sr., in which the U.S. Supreme Court found that a debt collection notice by a California law firm did not violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and could not have been reasonably interpreted as a threat of a lawsuit. They explain that although the plaintiff claimed the letter represented “meaningful attorney involvement,” it included a disclaimer detailing the firm’s role as a debt collector.
