Andrew Buxbaum is Counsel in the firm’s Financial Services Litigation practice. Andrew provides clients with valuable strategy and analysis based on his vast experience in both private practice and in-house counsel positions. Andrew specializes in representing clients in the financial services industry (including banks, lenders, mortgage companies, debt collection firms and loan servicers) in consumer litigation, bankruptcy, and regulatory compliance matters.

Andrew has handled nearly every type of financial services litigation affecting large banks, mortgage lenders and servicers including claims under the Bank Secrecy Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Housing Act, False Claims Act, Graham-Leach-Bliley Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, Truth in Lending Act, the Uniform Commercial Code, as well as state consumer protection statutes. Andrew also has broad experience related to claims brought against servicers related to lender placed insurance programs.

Andrew’s practice includes the intersection of consumer protection laws and the Bankruptcy Code, including claims related to the filing of certain proofs of claim as violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and credit reporting obligations during and after a consumer bankruptcy case as violations of the discharge injunction or Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, Andrew served in the Legal Department of SunTrust Banks, Inc. In his role at SunTrust, Andrew has managed major litigation, class actions, government investigations and regulatory enforcement actions in a broad array of substantive areas for SunTrust and its affiliates, including SunTrust Mortgage.

In addition, Andrew has had responsibilities involving business litigation involving SunTrust, including major cases involving claims related to loan repurchase and indemnity demands concerning Residential Mortgage Backed Securities issues and lawsuits.
