Chris Carlson is an associate in Troutman Sanders’ Business Litigation Group and Government Investigations, Compliance, and Enforcement Section. Chris’ practice focuses on representing clients involved in regulatory, civil, and criminal investigations and litigation. Chris also represents clients interacting with and being investigated by state Attorneys General.

Before joining Troutman Sanders, Brooke served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable David A. Faber in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Immediately after graduating from the George Washington University Law School, Chris served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the West Virginia Attorney General. There, he represented the State of West Virginia litigating consumer protection actions involving state and federal laws prohibiting unfair or deceptive business practices, related to debt collection, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, landlord-tenant, and student loans. Additionally, Chris represented West Virginia in the in multi-state litigations and settlements.

  • Represented the State of West Virginia in action regarding failure to provide notice of right to cure before repossessing and remotely disabling motor vehicles.
  • Represented the State of West Virginia in action regarding wide range of debt collection activities.
  • Represented the State of West Virginia in multi-state investigation and settlement regarding company’s failure to prevent its wire transfer services from being used as a prevalent vehicle for fraudulent schemes.
  • Represented the State of West Virginia regarding deceptive practices by a residential landlord.
