Since the start of the pandemic one year ago, there have been almost 4,000 recorded hate incidents against people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent across our nation. On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, we witnessed yet another shocking example of violence and racism, this time directed toward women of Asian descent. The shootings in Georgia on Tuesday are but another horrific reminder that racism and violence persist in our society.

Troutman Pepper condemns all forms of racism and violence. We will continue to steadfastly promote a culture of inclusion and belonging, both within our firm and within our communities.

To our Asian and Pacific Islander clients, colleagues, and friends, please know that the firm stands with you, has your back and is here for you. The terrifying events that the world witnessed two days ago are the symptom of a disease that affects us all, and we stand firm in our belief that systemic racism and xenophobia have no place in our country. While many of us cannot fully appreciate the pain, fear and anger that the Asian and Pacific Islander community has endured, particularly since the beginning of the pandemic, we know the terrifying events of Tuesday only added to it.

At Troutman Pepper, we will continue to lead by example, call out racial and social injustice when we encounter it, and seek out opportunities to enact real and lasting change.

As a nation, we have a long way to go in overcoming racism, in addressing its impact, and in rebuilding trust. We remain committed to this critical path.
