County OKs new cell tower in east Newton
Partner David Kirk is quoted in The Rockdale Citizen, a regional Georgia newspaper, about the approval of a new cell tower in Newton County, Georgia. On Nov. 21, Kirk, who represents Verizon Wireless, told commissioners that the “cell tower is needed to handle the volume of wireless transmissions in the area, particularly as the volume continues to grow.” He is quoted, saying, “In 2003, virtually no household (in the U.S.) relied solely on a wireless device for their telecommunication needs. Now, over 50 percent of households… nationwide rely on a wireless device for their business, personal, and emergency telecommunication needs.” Kirk also spoke about how the proposed tower would provide additional capacity in the area, as Verizon’s current installation on a nearby tower is “unable to efficiently meet the demands placed on it.” On Oct. 24, commissioners unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the tower.
