Troutman Pepper Represented Palm Desert, CA HOA in its Acquisition of the Palm Desert Resort Country Club
SAN DIEGO – Troutman Pepper Partner Michael Whitton and Associate Nicholas Grainger represented the Palm Desert Resorter Association in its acquisition of the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in Palm Desert, California. The transaction closed on June 30, 2020. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Palm Desert Resorter Association is the homeowner’s association surrounding the par 72 championship golf course and its country club.
“We were pleased to assist our client in gaining control of this asset,” says Whitton. “In some instances, it is a good strategy for adjacent Homeowner Associations to gain ownership and control of the surrounding golf course and country club when its struggling operations and upkeep begin to negatively affect home values and the benefits of living in a golf community."
Whitton has a national reputation as a go-to advisor in transactions involving golf courses/country clubs, marinas, hotels and other resort properties in the hospitality sector, as well as in deals that involve business with significant real estate assets.
Grainger has a broad background in all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, development and commercial leasing. He is well-positioned to guide clients through all stages of a real estate transaction and provide advice on the full range of issues that can arise.
