Troutman Sanders Adds Top White-Collar Defense Partner Ghillaine Reid in New York
NEW YORK – Ghillaine Reid, a former branch chief in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, has joined Troutman Sanders LLP as a partner in the firm’s New York office. Reid focuses her practice on government and securities regulatory investigations, financial services and commercial litigation and corporate compliance matters. She previously practiced at McGuireWoods and co-led its Broker-Dealer Industry Team.
Reid has more than two decades of experience representing clients in investigations conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Justice Department, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and other government and regulatory agencies. She has secured favorable outcomes in high-profile investigations and enforcement proceedings involving a wide range of significant issues, including insider trading, accounting fraud, market manipulation and broker-dealer sales practice violations.
“Ghillaine has a highly successful practice which covers a broad range of financial services, regulatory and compliance issues,” said John West, chair of the firm’s Business Litigation department. “Her areas of expertise and dedication to her clients make her a natural fit for Troutman Sanders.”
Just last year, Reid was named a Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal and was also recognized by The Network Journal as one of its 25 Influential Black Women in Business. She is a frequent speaker at industry events and is involved in several organizations, including the Association of SEC Alumnae, New York City Bar and American Law Institute.
“We are excited to welcome Ghillaine to our growing government investigations team in New York,” said Craig Kline, managing partner of Troutman Sanders’ New York office, which has added nearly a dozen partners in the last 15 months. “Ghillaine is a leading white-collar defense attorney and has helped numerous clients navigate high-profile and sensitive matters. Her arrival, along with the recent addition of partner Mark Mandel, establishes our powerhouse White Collar and Government Investigations practice here in New York.”
Troutman Sanders’ White Collar and Government Investigations practice helps clients manage unexpected investigations by responding quickly, protecting their interests, getting the facts right and, ultimately, finding the best possible resolution. Firm attorneys have extensive experience representing both corporations and individuals in complex federal and state criminal investigations, government agency investigations, and civil and regulatory proceedings in the United States and abroad.
“I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues at Troutman Sanders. I was drawn to the firm because of its expertise in government investigations, commitment to its clients and emphasis on collaboration,” Reid said.
Reid earned both her J.D. and bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston University.
