Troutman Sanders' Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Continues Growth, Adds Experienced Partner Martha Conlin in Chicago
CHICAGO – Martha Conlin, an experienced litigator in commercial and insurance coverage matters, has joined Troutman Sanders’ Insurance and Reinsurance practice in Chicago as a partner. Conlin was previously a partner at Kennedys CMK and at Cozen O’Connor.
Conlin represents insurers and reinsurers. She defends clients on insurance coverage and reinsurance matters, including litigation of complex property and casualty claims. She also helps clients avoid formal litigation by resolving disputes through arbitration, mediation and other alternative proceedings. Her successful track record spans general liability, products liability, technology and media liability, construction, property, asbestos, environmental, mass tort and contribution claims.
“Martha is well-known and respected within the reinsurance bar, having handled numerous reinsurance disputes largely originating out of the London market. Her expertise in both direct and reinsurance matters makes her a particularly good fit for Troutman Sanders as we continue to expand both our traditional insurance coverage practice and our reinsurance practice,” said Tony Jones, a chair of Troutman Sanders’ Litigation Department.
“We are excited to welcome Martha to our growing Insurance and Reinsurance practice,” said Bill Withrow, managing partner of Troutman Sanders’ Chicago office. “Martha has been incredibly successful litigating high-value cases in state and federal courts and private arbitration forums. We look forward to working with her in and beyond Chicago as we continue to deliver the best service for our clients.”
Conlin has litigated long-tail claims arising from environmental contamination and exposure to toxic substances including asbestos, and handles disputes involving construction defect claims and cyber risks. She has effectively resolved contested matters through trial, dispositive motion practice, and settlement negotiation, including first and second chair roles at trial and in mediation.
“Troutman Sanders’ commitment to superior client care and team-based approach appealed to me,” Conlin said. “I look forward to working with the expanding Chicago office and Insurance and Reinsurance practice at the firm.”
Troutman Sanders’ Insurance and Reinsurance practice has been described by Chambers USA as having “a level of depth that is rarely matched when it comes to contentious insurance matters.” Over the past two decades, the practice has advised clients in sophisticated coverage litigation in all 50 states and in many foreign jurisdictions. Firm attorneys have secured landmark rulings in trial and appellate courts across the country that span decades and involve tens of billions of dollars.
Conlin earned her J.D. from Northwestern University and her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College.
