Julia is an attorney in the Financial Services Litigation section who focuses her practice on cybersecurity, information governance, privacy, payments, and online products throughout their lifecycle. Julia most recently worked in-house at Yapstone, one of the largest FinTech companies in the Bay Area, a full-stack payments platform on the Forbes List of 100 America’s Most Promising Companies and the Deloitte Technology Fast 500™ Company list.

Julia represents clients with cyber law matters in a range of industries including those involving mobile applications (from casual gaming to car sharing platforms), financial institutions (ACH payment and third-party online providers), and professional services (with a data breach mitigation focus).

She has driven consumer-side website and app privacy compliance including Terms of Use, End-User Licensing Agreements, and Privacy Policies. She has developed Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA") structures and data sharing frameworks, nationally as well as internationally (including a registration with the US-EU Privacy Shield). On the business-to-business side, she has shaped multi-step online applications with a view to Know-Your-Customer ("KYC") requirements. Her scope of work in the full-stack payment platform space also includes advice on a variety of financial laws and regulations. She is familiar with FinCEN’s Money Services Business ("MSB") rules and money transmission licensing ("MTL"), the latter both on a US and an EU level (Payment Institution). Her portfolio further includes business plans in their depictions of technological underpinnings, corporate fund flows, and financial account structures. In the transactional space, she has negotiated privacy provisions in vendor contracts from document OCR over decision and workflow engines to ID verification. She has handled data incidents, including resulting class action claims and state authority inquiries.

Previously, in her original jurisdiction of Germany, she was an associate in the Antitrust department of the leading German corporate law firm, where she drafted, oversaw, and filed merger control notifications for technology and other clients with the German Federal Cartel Office and collaborated on such filings with the EU Commission. She also conducted analyses on, and coordinated international merger control filings in the EU, the US, Russia, and China for large-scale business transactions. Her most passionate project was the co-supervision of a 4-year antitrust compliance program in the appliances industry, and she counseled a European energy giant in antitrust mock and live "dawn raids."

Julia is a Co-Founder of a San Francisco non-profit for the advancement of women to lead the future of Privacy and Security, always driven to further diversity across the legal landscape. As a grateful immigrant to this country, she also volunteers in the East Bay, where she lives, to aid naturalization candidates of little means in their applications to become citizens.
