Labor and Employment Practice Welcomes Partner Mark Payne in Orange County

Orange County, Calif. – Mark Payne has joined Troutman Sanders LLP as a partner in the firm’s Labor and Employment practice in Orange County. He comes to the firm with 26 years of experience advising and defending employers, including the past 16 years as a partner with Rutan & Tucker, LLP, where he also chaired the employment law practice and served in other leadership roles.

Payne represents local, regional and national employers across a wide range of industries in all aspects of employment and labor law, with an emphasis on the unique challenges facing employers with operations in California. He is a trusted adviser to employers seeking to comply with workplace rules that exist under local, state and federal laws.

“California presents unique and complex issues for employers. Mark’s extensive experience in helping employers of all sizes navigate these issues on the front-end, or in connection with employment-related disputes in state and federal courts, will benefit our clients in and beyond California,” said Tony Jones, chair of the firm’s Specialized Litigation Department.

“Mark is a distinguished employment attorney whose clients and colleagues alike appreciate him for his strategic and highly effective legal advice,” said Larry Cerutti, Orange County managing partner. “We welcome him to our growing team and look forward to partnering with him as we expand our employment law practice in California.”

Payne is the third partner to join Troutman Sanders’ Orange County office this year. In April, commercial litigation partner Eudeen Chang joined the firm, and in July, Steven Allison joined the firm’s Litigation and Insurance and Reinsurance practices. Troutman Sanders now has nearly 100 attorneys practicing on the West Coast.

Troutman Sanders’ Labor and Employment practice handles a wide range of labor and employment issues, including litigation and dispute resolution, class and collective action litigation, traditional labor law, employment counseling, government claims and investigations and immigration. Attorneys advise on OSHA, wage/hour and employment-discrimination class actions, ERISA litigation, OFCCP issues, restrictive covenants, and collective bargaining agreements, among other areas.

“Joining Troutman Sanders presents a terrific opportunity to serve the employment law needs of its many clients with operations in California,” Payne said. “The firm’s collaborative and collegial culture appealed to me, and its commitment to superior service aligns with how I treat my clients and what I want for them.”
