Molly DiRago is an attorney in the Cybersecurity, Information Governance and Privacy and Business Litigation practices of Troutman Sanders. She has broad experience litigating complex commercial matters, including partnership disputes, fraud, RICO, intellectual property, and breach of contract. Her clients range from large, multi-national companies, to small, closely held corporations and individuals. She has litigated in state and federal jurisdictions across the country, and first chaired hearings before the Illinois Department of Labor and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

Molly graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2004, where she earned the Prosser Award for Feminist Jurisprudence and served two years as the Director of Legal Writing And Research teacher’s assistant.

Representative Matters

  • Counseled and advised various clients with respect to their biometric information privacy policies.
  • Represented PJM Interconnection, LLC, a regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia in its case alleging a scheme to manipulate the energy markets operated by PJM, in violation of the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), with damages up to $150 million.
  • Represented the owner of a large manufacturing plant in Chicago that was being demolished, where an accidental death of a construction worker occurred on the property.
  • Assisted a corporation in the recovery industry that had developed cutting edge technology to aid in vehicle repossessions defend against intellectual property claims, including theft of trade secrets and a violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) in the Northern District of Texas.
  • Worked on the trial team defending a corporation against an intrusion of seclusion claim by its former employee, involving issues of agency and vicarious liability in the Cook County Circuit Court; won remittitur after jury trial.
  • Represented, pro bono, the first plaintiff to avail herself of the Illinois Department of Labor’s Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA), which resulted in a full hearing before a Department of Labor administrative judge.
  • Obtained a successful settlement, through court-sponsored mediation, for an individual who brought claims against his former employer for age and race discrimination.
