Partner Joins Troutman Sanders’ Multifamily Housing Finance Practice in Richmond
RICHMOND, VA – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Jonathan Lautt has joined the firm’s Multifamily Housing Finance practice as a partner in the Richmond office. He comes to the firm from Bryan Cave.
Lautt’s practice focuses on commercial real estate finance with significant experience representing lenders, master servicers and special servicers related to the servicing of real estate loans. His recent work includes servicing multifamily housing loans made by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Lautt has substantial experience with loan transactions for CMBS loans, including loan assumptions, defeasances, partial collateral releases, and other servicing matters.
“Jon is particularly adept at handling servicing and asset management matters. His depth of experience in these areas will be of great benefit to our Multifamily Housing Finance clients,” said Mark Shiembob, senior partner and Executive Committee member.
Troutman Sanders’ Multifamily Housing Finance practice is the premier nationwide practice representing lenders in the multifamily finance industry. The practice focuses on counseling mortgage banking clients in the origination, sale and servicing of loan transactions sold to secondary market investors — primarily Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as well as other financial institutions and securitization program participants.
The practice handled nine of the largest multifamily-apartments portfolio financings between 2012 and 2017, each of which had an aggregate loan amount of more than $1 billion. In addition, the practice has handled more than 11,000 loan and servicing transactions in the last five years, with a dollar volume of more than $168 billion — including transactions in every U.S. state and the District of Columbia.
Lautt will practice out of the firm’s growing Richmond office. The office now includes more than 120 attorneys and a diverse corporate, finance, litigation and regulatory practice.
“We are excited to have Jon join our Richmond team,” said John West, managing partner of the firm’s Richmond office. “His ability to meet the specific needs of our servicing clients will further enable us to offer the best client care to both new and existing clients.”
“Troutman Sanders’ Multifamily Housing Finance practice is regarded as an industry leader, and I look forward to working with the team to deliver for our clients,” Lautt said.
Lautt received his Bachelor of Arts from Tabor College and his J.D. from Washburn University.
