Troutman Sanders Closes Southern Company Merger with AGL Resources
ATLANTA – July 1, 2016 – Troutman Sanders announces the completion of Southern Company’s acquisition of AGL Resources, the largest natural gas only distribution company in the U.S.
AGL Resources is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company, which now has 11 electric and natural gas utilities with operations across the U.S. The transaction will create what Southern Company has described as a new "U.S.-leading electric and natural gas utility with approximately nine million utility customers in nine states."
Troutman Sanders advised Southern Company on due diligence, regulatory, tax, corporate disclosure and finance matters relating to the transaction. The deal, which was announced last August, closed in less than a year.
