Troutman Sanders Construction Practice Continues Expansion in D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 15, 2017 – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that partners Barbara Werther and David Mancini and associate Meredith Philipp have joined the firm’s Construction practice in the D.C. office. They previously practiced at Sedgwick LLP.
Both Werther and Mancini have extensive experience litigating claims on behalf of owners and contractors in federal and state courts and before arbitral tribunals. They also represent government contractors in procurement disputes, project management issues, cost and pricing matters and claims at the Board of Contract Appeals, the Court of Federal Claims and other government contract dispute tribunals.
Werther represents developers in contract drafting and dispute resolution on some of the largest projects in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. She is also a co-founder of the Women in Construction Conference. The 12th annual conference will be held in October in Washington, D.C.
Mancini has served as lead counsel in more than 100 litigation and arbitration matters, many on projects in the Washington, D.C. area, but also throughout the United States and internationally. He regularly represents owners and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractors on disputes arising out of large and highly complex energy, industrial and infrastructure projects.
Philipp’s practice is construction litigation and contract drafting. She represents general contractors and owners, in both the prosecution and defense of claims on public and private construction projects.
“Barbara, David and Meredith have extensive experience in construction contract drafting, dispute avoidance counseling and litigation,” said Bill Withrow, chair of Troutman Sanders Litigation Department. “Their collective industry knowledge will add depth to our Construction practice and expand our capabilities to meet the needs of our clients.”
Troutman Sanders boasts a top-rated Construction practice comprised of lawyers frequently ranked among the best nationally and internationally for construction transactions and dispute resolution, including arbitration and litigation. The team’s experience is unrivaled in high-stakes project disputes and the negotiation and drafting of construction contracts.
In June, the firm welcomed construction partner James Diwik to the San Francisco office. Diwik, a former colleague of Werther and Mancini, is focused on expanding the firm’s construction capabilities on the West Coast – a market that continues to be very active in terms of commercial construction projects.
“We are excited to bring Barbara, David and Meredith onboard,” said Todd Coles, managing partner of the firm’s Washington D.C. office. “Their arrival is another step in the firm’s overall growth strategy of cultivating lawyers whose practices enhance our established teams. They will be instrumental in continuing to build our East Coast construction base.”
“Troutman Sanders is a recognized leader in the construction industry and a great fit for our clients,” Mancini noted. “I am very pleased to be joining the firm and to contribute to the ongoing growth of the firm’s Construction practice,” Werther said.
Werther received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her J.D. from George Washington University. Mancini received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and his J.D. from Georgetown University. Philipp received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and her J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law
