Troutman Sanders Opens Charlotte Office
Charlotte, N.C. – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that the firm is opening an office in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the firm’s second office in North Carolina, having opened an office in Raleigh in 2003. Five highly-respected real estate and corporate partners, who have been practicing together for almost twenty years and have been involved in many of the most significant commercial real estate projects in the Carolinas and throughout the Southeast, are joining the firm and establishing the office. Walter D. Fisher, Jr. will be the Managing Partner of the new office, and he will be joined by partners G. Lee Cory, Jr., David H. Jones, Patrick L. Ridinger, and Paul A. Steffens. All five lawyers practiced previously at K&L Gates in Charlotte.
“Charlotte has been on our radar screen for quite some time,” said Robert W. Webb, Jr., Chairman of Troutman Sanders. “We were waiting for the right opportunity, and this was it. The chance to establish our Charlotte office with this outstanding group of real estate and corporate partners, who have such a stellar reputation and bring strong ties to the local business and civic community, is very exciting.”
Troutman Sanders’ practice in North Carolina is focused on key areas of firm-wide strength, including real estate, real estate finance, banking, litigation, environmental, and energy. The Charlotte office will play a pivotal role in the continued growth of these areas, as well as expansion into other areas of importance such as corporate, middle market M&A and private equity. Troutman Sanders is currently pursuing multiple opportunities to lease a full floor in a major uptown office tower and expects to announce the permanent location of its Charlotte office very soon.
“Troutman Sanders has long-standing client relationships in Charlotte, and we are focused on quickly growing our new office and establishing full-service capabilities in this important market,” said Stephen E. Lewis, Managing Partner of Troutman Sanders. “The significant transactional practice of our new Charlotte partners aligns perfectly with the firm’s platform, and we look forward to working with this top team of lawyers to meet the needs of clients and continue to grow our business in the Carolinas and the greater Southeast region.”
“We are very excited to be joining the firm and opening the Charlotte office. We have had the pleasure of working with many Troutman Sanders lawyers over the course of our careers, and we have great respect for the firm,” said Fisher. “Our move to Troutman Sanders not only provides an opportunity to benefit from the firm’s strong regional foothold, but also to leverage Troutman Sanders’ national capabilities to provide an expansive range of services to our clients across the country.”
The new partners joining the firm practiced together initially with Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman. That firm then merged with K&L Gates in July 2008. The group’s real estate practice focuses on the acquisition, sale, joint ventures, development, leasing and financing of commercial real estate in a wide variety of asset classes, including multi-family, suburban and high rise office, retail, industrial, hotel and resort, single-family developments, and complex mixed-use projects. In addition, the group has represented lenders, borrowers and third-party investors in financial restructuring and workout transactions. The corporate practice is focused on the representation of privately held and publicly traded companies in middle market transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private securities offerings and the representation of sponsors and investors in the formation of private investment funds.
