Troutman Sanders Receives Pro Bono Award from Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Troutman Sanders LLP has received the Outstanding Firm Pro Bono Service Award from the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. The award recognizes the firm’s expunction case work with the organization.
“We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy in its efforts to make the expunction of certain past criminal charges and convictions available to people who need and deserve a second chance,” said Lee Cory, a partner in Troutman Sanders’ Real Estate practice who led a team in Charlotte on the expunction project. “So many people in our community are unable to get housing or employment due to events from their long-ago past that, in many cases, related to charges that were not even prosecuted. And, as you might expect, participation in the expunction clinics does more for our team of attorneys in Charlotte from a ‘feel good’ perspective than we could ever do for our expunction clients.”
Each year, Troutman Sanders’ attorneys dedicate thousands of pro bono hours in support of nonprofits, military veterans, children, the wrongfully accused, and so many more. The Troutman Sanders attorneys who worked on the expunction project in Charlotte included Lee Cory, Devin Catlin, David Jones, Paul Steffens, Walter Fisher, Jeremy Tomes, Graham Miller, Lauren Tonon, David Alexander Suzuki, Stephanie Greer Fulcher, Brett Alan Hubler, Stuart Jones, and Patrick Ridinger.
The Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, formerly Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, provides a wide range of civil legal assistance to low-income people in the Charlotte metropolitan area and west-central North Carolina. Learn more at www.lssp.org.
