Troutman Sanders Partner Andrea Farley Is Member of Team that Wins Second Place in 2016 Women in Law Hackathon
ATLANTA – June 30, 2016 - Troutman Sanders congratulates Andrea Farley and her team on their recent Hackathon second place victory. The firm was one of 54 top law firms participating in the inaugural “ Women in Law Hackathon.” Farley, Chair of Troutman Sanders’ Corporate department and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, represented the firm in the competition.
Farley’s team pitched before a "Shark Tank"-style panel of judges of prominent in-house counsel, including Tony West, General Counsel, PepsiCo. The focus was identifying innovative ideas and solutions to help strengthen recruitment, retention and advancement for women in law firms. The pitches took place over a two-day period in June at Stanford Law School.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to engage with others in the legal community in support of initiatives that can retain and advance women at leading law firms,” said Farley. “Although this was a competition, all of the ideas presented were innovative, well thought out and worthy of consideration by the participating firms, as well as the entire legal community.”
Farley’s team included six high-level partners, two advisers with experience in diversity issues, and a Stanford Law student. The group collaborated over the course of six months culminating in their idea of a “power development program” in which law firms partner with large or other institutional clients who are committed to advancing women in law. The program would pair two generations of women lawyers to provide an opportunity to develop significant relationships with the client resulting in relationship team status for that client, while also furthering the succession planning within the firm for that client.
Farley’s teams won a grant of $7,500 to be donated to the team’s choice of a nonprofit organization, which advances women in the legal profession.
The Hackathon was created by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Stanford Law School and Bloomberg Law.
