About the new partners in the New York office:
Heather Morehouse Ettinger, Ph.D., joined Troutman Sanders in 2012 as of counsel and is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group and the firm’s Life Sciences team.
Prior to joining the firm, she was an associate at McDermott Will & Emery from 2010 to 2012 and a patent professional at Darby & Darby from 2001 to 2009, both in New York.
Ettinger focuses her practice on patent litigation, due diligence, counseling and procurement in the biotechnical and pharmaceutical fields. She regularly handles domestic and international patent portfolios,
and due diligence studies for clients, including major corporations and research institutes. She also regularly counsels in Hatch-Waxman issues and has significant Hatch-Waxman litigation experience. She has extensive experience performing due diligence, counseling, and litigating on patent matters in areas such as recombinant molecular biology, pharmaceuticals, enzyme technology and small molecule chemistry. She has procured patents covering inventions in a wide range of fields in the life sciences.
Additionally, she has experience negotiating and drafting license agreements, and mergers and acquisitions in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields.
In addition to being admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, she is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Ettinger has spoken on numerous legal topics related to patents at Harvard University and other places, and was an instructor for the Practicing Law Institute's Fundamentals of Patent Prosecution: A Boot Camp for Claim Drafting & Amendment Writing in 2008 and 2009.
She received a J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University in 2006, a Ph.D. from Harvard University in Biological and Biomedical Sciences in 2001, and a B.S., summa cum laude, from Tufts University in 1995.
Xin “Kevin” He joined Troutman Sanders in 2009 as of counsel. He is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Business Litigation practice groups.
Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, He was an associate from 2004 to 2009 with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP in New York, and a law clerk from 2002 to 2003 for Pennie & Edmonds LLP in New York.
He’s practice includes intellectual property litigation, licensing, opinion work, and patent prosecution. He has litigated many cases involving flash memory drives, wide bandgap (WBG), light-emitting diodes, (LEDs), digital cameras, cell phones, electronic watches, and PDAs, as well as other technology areas, such as semiconductor manufacturing processes, computer software and telecommunication systems. He also advises clients on licensing, opinion, and patent prosecution matters.
Additionally, his practice covers most areas of physics and electrical engineering, including wireless telecommunications, digital signal processing, Internet technology, e-commerce, software, integrated circuits, business methods, fiber optics, lasers, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and xerography.
Prior to his career in law, He had been a member of the technical staff (MTS) at Lucent Technologies, where he worked on software development of 3G CDMA wireless telecommunication systems.
He has presented at numerous seminars within China, and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, as well as a member of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association.
He earned a J.D. in 2005 from Fordham University, a Ph.D. in 2001 and an M.S.E.E. in 1998 from the University of Notre Dame, and a B.S.E.E. in 1995 from Tsinghua University.
Joseph “Joe” Walsh joined the firm in 2005 and is a member of its Corporate, Securities & Corporate Governance, and Mergers, Acquisitions & Business Ventures practice groups.
Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, Walsh was an associate with Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP.
His areas of practice include corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he has represented issuers and underwriters in a broad range of securities law and corporate finance matters, including initial public offerings, domestic and cross-border sales of high-yield and investment-grade debt and offerings of structured products. In the mergers and acquisitions area, he has represented buyers and sellers in negotiated transactions involving both public and private companies.
Walsh received a J.D. in 1999 form St. John’s University and a B.A. in 1996 from Stony Brook University, State University of New York.
About the new partner in the Norfolk office:
Eric A. Gallo joined Troutman Sanders in 2010 as an associate. He is a member of the firm’s Corporate, and Mergers, Acquisitions & Business Ventures practice groups.
Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in New York from 2004 to 2010.
His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets, including the representation of financial and strategic investors in public and private mergers, equity and asset acquisitions and divestitures, leveraged buyouts, minority investments and joint venture transactions. He also represents clients in public offerings and private placements of securities.
Outside of the legal profession, Gallo is a board member of the Virginia Opera as well as the Hermitage Museum and Gardens.
Gallo earned a J.D. in 2004 from New York University and a B.A., magna cum laude, in 2001 from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
About the new partner in the Portland office:
Karen J. Kruse joined Troutman Sanders in 2004 and is a member of the firm’s Energy practice group.
Kruse represents clients in the energy industry before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) through discovery, hearing, settlement, audit and informal investigation processes and procedures. She has particular experience with vertically-integrated utilities and transmission-related issues, such as compliance with national and regional reliability standards, open access transmission tariff (OATT) provisions, and FERC regulations related to Standards of Conduct (SOC), Code of Conduct and OASIS posting requirements. She also regularly reviews and prepares transmission, interconnection and power contracts, and has examined in detail FERC’s incremental pricing and incentive rate treatment policies, as well as necessary revisions to transmission and interconnection queuing practices.
Kruse has written numerous articles related to her legal practice, which have appeared in Transmission Monthly.
In addition to being admitted to the bar in Colorado, the District of Columbia and Oregon, she is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association, the Denver Chapter of the Young Professionals in Energy and the Energy Bar Association.
Kruse received a J.D., cum laude, in 2004 from American University and a B.B.A. in 2000 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
About the new partners in the Richmond office:
Siran S. Faulders joined the firm in 2004 as of counsel and is a member of Troutman Sanders’ State Attorneys General team and Regulatory Compliance, and Government Litigation practice group.
She joined the firm following a nine-year tenure as Section Chief and Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s office, she was a partner with Williams, Mullen, Christian & Dobbins and Press, Jones & Waechter, P.C.
Faulders’ practice focuses on advising clients in state and federal regulatory matters with a special emphasis on state consumer protection laws, including matters involving data breaches, pharmaceuticals, advertising and financial services. In addition to representing clients in single and multi-state enforcement action by state Attorneys General, her practice also includes representation of parents in special education cases. Faulders has also written on special education issues, including an article for the Commonwealth Educational Policy Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University
Faulders is a member of the State and Local Government Law Section of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar, the Richmond Bar Association and a former member of the Governor’s Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect, the 13 th Circuit Committee for the Resolution of Free Disputes of the Virginia State Bar and the Fan Free Clinic.
Faulders received a J.D. from the University of Richmond and a B.A. from Bates College.
Matthew J. Murcko joined Troutman Sanders in 2006 as an associate, becoming an of counsel in 2012, and is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Finance and Debt Financing practice groups.
Prior to joining the firm, Murcko was an associate at Powell Goldstein LLP from 2002 to 2006 in Washington, D.C.; counsel at Greystone Servicing Corporation from 2001 to 2002 in Bethesda, Maryland; an associate at Arter & Hadden LLP from 1998 to 2000 in Washington, D.C.; an associate at Wilkes, Artis, Hedrick & Lane, Chartered, from 1996 to 1998 in Washington, D.C.; and a commercial real estate loan officer at Fleet Bank of New York from 1988 to 1992 in Buffalo, New York.
His practice focuses on representation of lenders and borrowers in various types of credit transactions, including secured and unsecured commercial credit facilities, real estate construction and permanent financing, working capital loan facilities, revolving lines of credit, workouts and restructurings and related matters. He also represents developers and owners in project acquisition, development, finance, management, leasing and sale of office, industrial, retail and multifamily residential properties.
Murcko is admitted to the bar in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia.
He received a J.D., cum laude, in 1995 from the University of Baltimore, a M.B.A. in 1988 from the University of South Carolina, and a B.B.A. in 1986 from St. Bonaventure University.
Leigh Hudgins Schreher joined the firm in 2008 as of counsel, and is a member of the firm’s Multifamily Housing practice group.
Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, she was vice president and commercial transactions counsel of LandAmerica 1031 Exchange Services, Inc. from 2006 to 2008, an associate with Kutak Rock LLP from 2002-2006 in the Historic Tax Credit practice group and an associate with Williams Mullen from 2000 to 2002 in the Tax practice group.
Her practice focuses on representing lenders in all aspects of closing and delivering loans secured by multifamily projects, including the full range of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan programs. She also aids the Multifamily Housing team at Troutman Sanders in its representation of the top national multifamily lenders working on complex bond, forward commitment, negotiated multi-property pool and affordable housing transactions.
In the past, she has been a member of Commercial Real Estate Women, served as a co-chair of the Lawyers and the Arts Virginia Bar Association/Young Lawyers Division, served on the Red Cross’ Young Leadership Development Council, been a board member of TheatreVirginia Young Enthusiasts, and worked for the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society and the Virginia Tax Law Clinic.

About the new partner in the Tysons Corner office:
Kristopher P. Henman started with Troutman Sanders in 2005 and is a member of the Lending & Structured Finance practice group.
Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jackson L. Kiser of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in 2004 and 2005.
At Troutman Sanders, Henman represents institutional clients in commercial financing transactions with a broad range of borrowers, including high-net worth individuals, public and private corporations, life science and technology companies, healthcare providers, real estate investment funds, venture capital funds and other private equity funding entities. He has represented national and community banks, public and private financing firms and other investment funds, advisors and managers in a variety of financing structures, including syndicated, senior secured, mezzanine and unsecured financings; as well as represented borrowers, including consulting firms and retail companies.
His practice also involves both domestic and international transactions and multiple currency loans, as well as loan workouts and restructurings, bankruptcy, creditor’s rights and a variety of asset-based lending transactions, including those secured by government accounts, real estate, intellectual property, equipment, and capital calls.
Henman is a member of the Virginia Bar Association.
He received a J.D., magna cum laude, in 2004 from George Mason University and a B.S. in 1998 from Georgetown University.
About the new partners in the Washington, D.C., office:
Anne K. Dailey is a member of the firm’s Energy practice group and started at Troutman Sanders in 2005.
Prior to her tenure at Troutman Sanders, she was an associate at McGuire Woods LLP from 2004 to 2005 and a senior legal research associate with the Critical Infrastructure Protection Project from 2003 to 2004.
Dailey represents clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), with an emphasis on electric transmission-related issues for investor-owned public utilities. She has extensive experience advising clients regarding compliance with the Federal Power Act, FERC regulations, and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
She has published articles in Law360 as well as within the Journal of Energy & Natural Resources Law.
She received a J.D. in 2003 from George Mason University and a B.A. in 1996 from the College of William and Mary.
Christopher R. Jones started at Troutman Sanders in 2004 and is a member of the firm’s Energy practice group.
Prior to working at Troutman Sanders, he was the director of business development for Cassidy & Associates Government Relations from 2002 to 2004 in Washington, D.C., director of business
development for SWR Worldwide Opinion Research from 2000 to 2002 in Washington, D.C., and served as a special assistant to Elizabeth Dole in her presidential bid in 1999 as well as serving as a special assistant to the president of the American Red Cross in 1998. He has also practiced in the Energy group at Alston & Bird.
Jones represents clients in the energy industry before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and federal courts, focusing on vertically-integrated electric utilities and utility holding companies. He has particular experience in energy markets and works routinely on competition-related issues, such as mergers and acquisitions, market-based rate authority for generators, organized RTO and ISO markets for energy, capacity and ancillary services, including market design issues, and issues related to the nation’s bilateral energy markets. Additionally, he works on transmission related issues, such as transmission rate incentives, generator interconnections, OATT compliance and Standards of Conduct, as well as FERC compliance and investigation defense matters.
He has previously served as the Vice Chair of the ABA Committee on Restructuring of the Electric Industry and served on the Committee on Gas and Electricity Marketing, and recently moderated an ABA panel discussion on the Supreme Court’s decision in Morgan Stanley v. FERC. Additionally, he’s had an article published in Public Utilities Fortnightly and served as the executive editor of the firm’s Troutman Transmission Monthly.
Jones received a J.D. in 2004 from George Mason University, where he worked on the Civil Rights Law Journal, and received a B.A. in 1997 from the College of Wooster.
Clarence Y. Lee is a member of the firm’s Insurance and Intellectual Property practice groups, and started at Troutman Sanders in 2009.
Prior to working at Troutman Sanders, Lee was an associate with Ross, Dixon & Bell from 2007 until the firm merged with Troutman Sanders; an associate at Smith Ellison, P.C. from 2006 to 2007; an associate with Bean, Kinney & Korman, P.C. from 2004 to 2006; and served as a law clerk for Judge Audrey Fleissig in the Eastern District of Missouri in 2004.
His practice focuses on insurance coverage counseling and litigation, commercial litigation, and intellectual property litigation and enforcement. He also has extensive experience in civil litigation and environmental insurance coverage actions in state and federal courts around the country. With respect to insurance coverage, he provides insurance coverage advice and litigation representation on a variety of insurance issues, including general liability, environmental, mass tort, director’s and officer’s liability, professional liability, managed care, and group care policies. He also has represented companies in intellectual property and antitrust litigation. With respect to his intellectual property enforcement practice, he is the lead attorney in charge of the firm’s representation of a major intellectual property trade association that enforces member copyrights throughout the world. Lee has also represented clients in intellectual property disputes in federal courts, including the Eastern District of Virginia.
Additionally, Lee has an active pro bono practice that involves immigration and asylum cases, as well as family law issues in local courts.
Lee is a member of the American Bar, Virginia Trial Lawyers, Virginia Young Lawyers, Arlington County Bar, Fairfax County Bar and Orange County Bar associations. He has been published by the American Bar Association and recently addressed the spring meeting of the ABA on issues involving pro bono immigration representation.
He has a J.D. from Washington University, which he obtained in 2004, and a B.A. from Cornell University, which he obtained in 2001.
Meredith E. Werner has been with Troutman Sanders since 2009 and is a member of the firm’s Insurance practice group. Prior to her work with the firm, she was an associate from 2004 to 2008 with Ross, Dixon & Bell, which merged with Troutman Sanders in 2009.
Werner represents insurers in complex disputes arising under directors and officers and other professional liability policies. Currently, she represents insurers in matters involving subprime lending and the global credit crisis, major corporate scandals, corporate bankruptcies, ERISA stock drop claims, and criminal and regulatory investigations. She has participated in numerous mediations for insurer clients of the firm. She also litigates coverage and other disputes in federal and state courts throughout the country, at both the trial and appellate level, and has handled matters pending before courts sitting in the District of Columbia, Delaware, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Illinois, New York and Texas.
A member of the American Bar Association and North Carolina Bar Association, Werner is also widely published, with articles on D&O Insurance matters appearing in Law360 and elsewhere.
She earned a J.D. in 2004 from Vanderbilt University, where she was a John Wade Scholar and student editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, and earned a B.A., summa cum laude, in 2001 from the University of North Carolina.
