Mark Shiembob is the founding member of Troutman Pepper’s Multifamily Housing Finance practice. He began practice at Mays & Valentine and, as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, was instrumental when the two firms merged in 2001. Following the merger, he served as department chair of the newly formed Finance Section from 2001-2009, as well as a member of Troutman Pepper’s Executive Committee from 2001-2018.
Mark had the privilege of joining the legacy members of the Troutman Pepper Partner Compensation Committee. After eight years as a member, the firm asked Mark to chair the Committee in 2010. He was only the third partner in firm history to serve in this role. Mark led the Partner Compensation Committee until 2018.
Beyond his leadership responsibilities, Mark was an innovator in the practice of Multifamily Housing Finance law and is widely regarded for his expertise with Fannie Mae’s Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS) product line and Freddie Mac’s Capital Markets Execution (CME) program. The team of lawyers he established and developed has become the premier practice representing lenders in Multifamily Housing Agency Finance throughout the U.S. Mark was often the lead lawyer on the largest and most innovative transactions.
Early in his 37-year career, Mark was elected to the prestigious American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 1994. He served as chair of the Multifamily Lending Committee of the American Bar Association from 1996-2000, and he continues to be an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.
Mark is a member of the Virginia State Bar. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, with distinction, in 1978 and received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982.
