Our Legal Talent Department works in close coordination with firm and practice leadership to facilitate career development from start to finish. We embrace the idea that when you succeed, we all succeed.
To ensure a smooth transition to the firm and the practice of law, Troutman Pepper welcomes all new associates with a 90-day Entry-Level Academy. ELAs receive instruction on foundational legal, professional, and business skills from experienced Troutman Pepper attorneys and industry experts. ELAs also learn about the firm and its various administrative departments to ensure that they are successfully integrated into the firm, their local office, and their practice group by the end of the 90 days.
Troutman Pepper is focused on opportunities to strategically add experienced talent through lateral hiring. We provide tools and resources to support laterals at all stages of their career, including immediate mentorship opportunities to help laterals integrate more quickly into the firm and client matters. All new lateral associates are also enrolled in our Lateral Academy – an onboarding and integration program designed to give associates the tools they need to hit the ground running in the firm.
Troutman Pepper YOUniversity is the firm's learning and development hub that aligns training, feedback, and benchmarks. Troutman Pepper offers more than 200 training programs annually, including more than 100 CLEs. Training is targeted to associates by level and practice group, allowing associates to chart their own development path by opting into training outside of their immediate legal areas of focus as well as taking advantage of a number of professional and business skills training courses.
In-house training is enhanced through dedicated academies for mid and senior-level associates as well as new partners to provide immersive, hands-on instruction to prepare attorneys for the various phases of their careers.
Associates interested in leadership roles have the opportunities to participate in the Associate Liaison Committee (ALC). Liaisons provide regular feedback to Firm Management by identifying what is working well for associates and where there are opportunities for improvement. Members of the ALC meet regularly to discuss associate development, engagement, and programs and initiatives that enhance the associate experience. They also work collaboratively to develop creative solutions to challenges and opportunities raised by their peers.
