Ex-Chief Justice Melton Backing Veteran in Potential Precedent-Setting Case
Troutman Pepper attorneys Justice Harold Melton and Tim McHugh are quoted in the Daily Report article, " Ex-Chief Justice Melton Backing Veteran in Potential Precedent-Setting Case." Melton and McHugh are involved with Army veteran James R. Rudisill's federal appeal that could set a precedent for more than one million veterans seeking their full benefits from the U.S. government.
"We don't have to remind people about who our veterans are and what they have done for our country," Melton said. "…These benefits are [owed to] the veterans. … We're grateful Mr. Rudisill is able to enter this fight with his brothers and sisters, and we're honored to be able to fight with him."

McHugh said that, when Rudisill, who has three children, couldn't get his full benefits from the VA, he opted for a lower-cost (only $12,000 a year) and less prestigious divinity school than Yale. They did, however, succeed in getting an injunction from the Veterans Court to at least temporarily restore his benefits to the full 48 months.
