Megan E. Burns Joins Troutman Sanders in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Megan E. Burns as of counsel in its Complex Litigation practice group in Virginia Beach, Va.
Burns comes to Troutman Sanders from Williams Mullen, where she was a partner from 1998 until she joined Troutman Sanders.
At Troutman Sanders, Burns’ practice will focus on creditors’ rights with an emphasis on bankruptcy and representation of financial institutions and fiduciaries in complex commercial litigation, primarily in federal
court. She also handles matters involving government contract financing and prime-subcontractor disputes.
Burns is a member of many legal organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, as well as the American Bar, Federal Bar, Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar, Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar, Virginia Bar and Virginia Beach Bar associations.
Outside of the legal industry, she’s a member of the Tidewater Area Service Contractors group and serves on the Tidewater Government Industry Council. Additionally, she serves as secretary for the Organization of Women in
International Trade and as on the Board of Directors for Girls on the Run of South Hampton Roads, an experiential learning program for girls eight to thirteen years old.
Prior to working at Williams Mullen, Burns was an associate with Kaufman & Canoles, PC, from 1994-1998 and served as a clerk in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia for Judge Rebecca Beach Smith from
1993 to 1994.
Burns received a B.A. in 1985 from the University of Virginia, and a J.D. in 1993 from the College of William & Mary School of Law, where she was an editor of the William & Mary Law Review and a member of the Order
of the Coif.
