Shifting Scrutiny: State AG Practices Prepare for New Priorities Under Biden
Ashley Taylor, a co-leader of Troutman Pepper's State Attorneys General Practice Group, was quoted in the National Law Journal article, " Shifting Scrutiny: State AG Practices Prepare for New Priorities Under Biden."
Troutman Pepper partner Ashley Taylor, who heads the firm's AG practice, said he expects the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to ramp up coordination with AGs. When collaborating, law enforcement actions are typically stronger, Taylor said. Under the Obama administration, he remembers a time when his client got two letters alleging fraud: One from the CFPB outlining two claims and one from a coalition of 30 state AGs outlining three other claims.
"When you looked at it, it was two pieces of a puzzle. They were clearly coordinating and dividing by expertise," Taylor said. "The Democratic AGs didn't go away when Democrats came into power, they just coordinated with them."

"I'm watching the opioid process, don't have a dog in the fight, because the lessons the states learned in tobacco, the model they used, is the model that they applied for the next 10 to15 years," Taylor said. "The opioid process of resolution and payment allocation model will influence the states on what they do."
