TransUnion, Chamber Back Spokeo's High Court Standing Bid
Law360 mentions Troutman Sanders in a story about Spokeo’s bid to convince the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit Article III standing issues in its dispute over alleged credit reporting inaccuracies. Several entities, including the National Association of Professional Background Screeners, filed four separate amicus briefs on January 5, arguing that a Ninth Circuit ruling had spurred widespread “chaos and confusion.” According to the story, the association “argued in its brief that findings by several lower courts that alleged technical inaccuracies are enough for standing under Spokeo ‘threatens the viability’ of credit reporting services by forcing settlements and encouraging forum shopping by plaintiffs in cases in which there is little to no consumer harm.” Partners Cindy Hanson, Ron Raether and Associate Scott Kelly represent the National Association of Professional Background Screeners. |
