Troutman Pepper Expands its Participation in the Cristo Rey Network Corporate Work Study Program
ATLANTA/RICHMOND, Va. - Troutman Pepper’s Atlanta and Richmond offices have partnered with Cristo Rey Network on its Corporate Work Study Program for the 2021-2022 school year. The program integrates four years of rigorous college preparatory academics with four years of professional work experience for Cristo Rey high school students. Troutman Pepper joins more than 1,700 businesses serving as corporate partners nationwide.
The Corporate Work Study Program combines two common business concepts, employee leasing and job sharing, with each Cristo Rey Network student working five days a month at local law firms, banks, and other professional institutions while simultaneously completing a full college preparatory course load. Each year, students are matched with a local participating business to gain valuable real-world job skills, contacts, and experience. Students’ earnings from the program help fund their education.
Since 2017, Troutman Pepper’s Atlanta office has partnered with the Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. This year, the firm has expanded its partnership to Richmond, where students from Cristo Rey Richmond High School will join the firm each month as part of the program. Nine students across both firm offices will gain hands on experience working with attorneys and across various administrative departments including, conference services, human resources, information technology, operations, marketing, legal administration, and the library.
“Troutman Pepper is proud to expand our partnership with Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study Program to the Richmond office,” said Partner Dabney Carr. “We appreciate the opportunity to support Cristo Rey in their work in the Richmond community, and we are pleased to offer students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of their education.”
With 37 schools across 24 states, the Cristo Rey Network’s approach to inner-city education gives students the resources and skills to overcome financial barriers that limit their educational and professional opportunities. Due to the program’s success, Cristo Rey Network alumni graduate from college with bachelor’s degrees at a rate that is four times that of their socioeconomic peers.
