ATLANTA – February 4, 2015 – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Lei Fang, M.D., Ph.D., and David Norden have both joined the firm as of counsel in Atlanta. Fang is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property practice and was previously of counsel at Sutherland. Norden is a member of the firm's Business Litigation practice and was previously an associate at Greenberg Traurig.
Fang, who holds both a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology as well as a medical degree, focuses her practice on matters related to IP prosecution and due diligence. In addition she provides counseling for her clients with procurements in the biotechnical, chemical, nanotechnology, neuroscience, medical device, pharmaceutical and life sciences fields. She represents clients both in the United States and abroad, handling matters involving patents, trademark and copyright protection, as well as various IP-related transactional issues. Her experience also includes Hatch-Waxman patent litigation and International Trade Commission Section 337 investigations involving U.S. and Chinese companies. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Fang practiced as a registered patent agent and took part in a postdoctoral training program at Harvard Medical School/Brigham Women’s Hospital. She also spent time as a research scientist for a biotech/pharmaceutical company.
“To have someone with Lei’s background, education and experience is an asset to our practice both domestically and in China,” said Ryan Schneider, a partner in the firm’s IP practice. “She knows well the issues and challenges that are facing the industry, both here and abroad, and those insights are going to be a great benefit to our clients.”
Norden handles complex products liability, toxic tort, commercial and appellate litigation for major corporations. He is experienced in large-scale, class action and multidistrict litigation, as well as in individual high exposure cases. Norden represents a diverse range of clients in the pharmaceutical, medical device, tobacco, rubber, chemicals and building products industries in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the United States.
“With more than a decade of experience in the courtroom, David will be a great addition to us in Atlanta,” said Bill Withrow, chair of the firm’s litigation department. “He has been an integral part in many high stakes class action and products liability matters, and that experience will add even more strength to our litigation practice.”
Fang holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology & toxicology from the University of Arizona and a medical degree from Nanjing Medical University. She received her J.D. from California Western School of Law.
