Walgreens Changes Minimum Age to Buy Tobacco Products While States Pass Related Laws
Bryan Haynes was quoted in a Corporate Counsel article titled, “Walgreens Changes Minimum Age to Buy Tobacco Products While States Pass Related Laws.” The article reports that Walgreens is changing the minimum age for purchasing tobacco products from 18 to 21 in support of the growing adoption of tobacco 21 laws across the country. The retailer joins companies including Juul, Altria and Philip Morris, but, as Haynes points out, the industry as a whole is not totally aligned on the tobacco 21 laws. He says, “One segment of the industry, those who support it, might say it’s a good faith gesture to address the issue of youth tobacco consumption. The opposite side of the industry would argue that it really isn’t a solution and the solution is to more aggressively enforce laws on the books.”
