According to Thomson Reuters, the value of worldwide M&A totaled U.S. $1.5 trillion during the first half of 2011, a 40.7% increase from comparable 2010 levels and the strongest first half for worldwide M&A since 2008. By number of deals, M&A activity fell 2.1% compared to last year with just over 20,000 announced deals.
Second quarter M&A activity totaled U.S. $710.6 billion and marked the first consecutive quarterly decline for worldwide M&A since the first quarter of 2010.
League tables are used throughout the legal and banking industry as a ranking guide to heavily market investment banks and law firm transactional services. Institutions are normally ranked based on multiple types of issues, such as the number of deals each one does and the value of those deals.
