AIA Form Users: Your 2007 AIA Contract Form May Soon Expire
Many are aware of the new AIA documents and forms released in 2017. Contracting parties should take note, however, that the following 2007 AIA documents will be ineffective and will expire as of Wednesday, October 31: A101, A102, A103, A104, A105, A201, A401, B101, B102, B103, B104, B105, C401, and E204. This means AIA users will no longer be able to create, edit, or finalize a 2007 version of these AIA agreements after October 31. If you have any AIA contracts currently in negotiation, but which will not be finalized before October 31, we highly recommend drafting the contract on the 2017 version of the AIA form to avoid any finalization errors or issues down the road. Furthermore, all AIA contracts created after October 31 must be drafted on the 2017 version of the AIA. While there are not many substantive differences in the new versions of the documents, previously modified form AIA agreements should be updated by an experienced construction attorney to ensure compliance with the new changes and effectiveness of the agreement.
