Troutman Pepper Celebrates One Year Since Transformative Merger
NEW YORK – July 2021 marks the first anniversary since two storied firms, Troutman Sanders and Pepper Hamilton, combined to become Troutman Pepper. The firm now features more than 1,200 attorneys in 23 U.S. offices, and supports some of the country’s biggest industry sectors, including construction, energy, finance, health sciences, insurance, private equity, real estate, and technology.
“In the last year, we have realized the promise of Troutman Pepper,” said Steve Lewis, chair of Troutman Pepper. “Clients have benefited from our expanded practices, bench strength, and resources, and our teams have developed new synergies.”
“That we were able to deliver these benefits during a period of considerable uncertainty, speaks volumes to who we are as a firm,” added Tom Cole, Troutman Pepper’s managing partner. “We are incredibly proud of our people who came together to make the merger such a success.”
Since the combination, Troutman Pepper has advised clients in their most complex transactions, counseled companies on mission-critical regulatory issues, and won cases at the highest levels. The firm also created an innovative client value program that combines client feedback and technology to deliver custom products and solutions.
The firm has already been recognized for its success, with in-house counsel rating it among the top 50 law firms for its superior client service, according to the 2021 BTI Client Service A-Team report. Notably, Troutman Pepper achieved 51 practice area rankings and 121 attorney rankings in the recently released Chambers USA guide.
Troutman Pepper has also strengthened its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and pro bono. The firm adopted an Action Plan to further its response to racial injustice and assess racial diversity issues, including specific institutional, educational, and client-focused initiatives it has taken and will undertake. Each practice group now has a dedicated DEI partner in its leadership ranks.
On the pro bono front, the firm continues to give back to the communities in which attorneys and professional staff live and work. In 2020, Troutman Pepper logged nearly 40,000 pro bono hours, representing an increase of more than 2,000 hours from 2019. Since the merger, the firm has supported nonprofits, military veterans, children, the wrongfully accused, immigrants facing deportation, and many others.
