What Happened To The Obama DOL’s New Overtime Rules?
Associate Evan Gibbs’ biweekly column in Above the Law focuses on the U.S. Department of Labor’s overtime rules. Specifically, Gibbs writes about last year’s proposed rule change that “caused a lot of hubbub for practically everyone because companies were facing a big hit to their bottom lines and a lot of employees were hopeful for a big pay raise.” Gibbs explains what happened with the proposed change, which would have increased the minimum salary required to qualify for one of the white-collar exemptions from $23,600 annually to $47,476 annually. The new minimum salary requirement is expected to be lower (likely between $34,000 to $36,000). Gibbs writes, “I think it’s a safe bet to assume that there will be an increase in the minimum salary test in the coming months, and so employers should begin their preliminary planning now.”
