- “The way this bill looks, I do think it is a limited victory for the NCAA and the conferences,” said Cal Stein, a litigation partner with Troutman Pepper Locke familiar with NIL issues.
- The bill, dubbed the SCORE Act and sponsored by Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), follows an NCAA lawsuit over student athletes’ name, image, and likeness (NIL). Stein said lawmakers waited for the parties to settle to advance the legislation, which mirrors President Donald Trump’s July executive order called “Saving College Sports.”
