CHICAGO – Susan Charles, a partner in Troutman Pepper Locke’s Environmental and Natural Resources Practice Group, has been named to the 2026 Notable Women in Law list by Crain’s Chicago Business. The annual recognition honors accomplished women attorneys across the Chicago area for their career achievements, leadership, and impactful work.

In building their list, editors sought nominees who serve in senior leadership roles within law firms working with clients or on pro bono projects that have measurable impact. Honorees have demonstrated leadership in professional organizations and civic or community initiatives and have been role models and mentors to other attorneys, promoting inclusive practices in the workplace.

Charles was previously named a Notable Woman in Law in 2020, and her 2026 recognition builds on a strong track record of accolades, including being named a Woman of Influence by the Chicago Business Journal and recognition in The Best Lawyers in America® for Environmental Law.

At Troutman Pepper Locke, Charlescounsels clients on all aspects of environmental law, including regulatory compliance, risk assessment, enforcement defense, and environmental litigation. She routinely advises clients with respect to spill and release reporting, hazardous waste issues, permitting, and state cleanup programs.

In addition to her thriving legal practice, Charles is an active member of her community and serves on the Women’s Board of Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo.
