Brad Weber, co-leader of Troutman Pepper Locke’s Antitrust Practice Group, was quoted in the March 31, 2025 The National Law Journal article, “New DOJ Task Force Aims to Cut Anticompetitive Regulations.”

Troutman Pepper Locke partner Brad Weber said the DOJ could simply choose not to enforce a law it considers anticompetitive, such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which the administration paused enforcing in February. The president’s executive order announcing the pause stated the law “actively harms American economic competitiveness.”

Weber said he doubted the task force can accomplish much deregulation without Congress or states taking action to change laws.

“The task force is basically the result of that executive order [on deregulation], but I just don’t know how much they can really do,” he said. “This, to me, is more of a show that they’re concerned about it and they’re looking at it.”
