Cal Stein, a partner in Troutman Pepper's Health Sciences Practice Group, was quoted in the January 2, 2023 Part B News article, " Prediction: The Biggest Compliance Hot-Spots in 2023 Will Be COVID-Related and Telehealth Fraud."
As COVID concerns have slightly eased, pandemic-related fraud has become a prosecution target across several industries, including health care.
"This was already a large focus in 2022, but DOJ has taken additional steps to suggest a further uptick in scrutiny, including its nearly $40 million budget request specifically earmarked for combatting pandemic-related fraud," says Callan G. Stein, a partner with the Troutman Pepper firm in Boston. "This, coupled with the DOJ's announcement in March 2022 that it had appointed a director for COVID-19 fraud enforcement, seems to be a clear indication that pandemic-related fraud will continue to be a major focus."
