Ryan Strasser will be moderating the "How Litigation with State Attorneys General Offices Differs from Traditional Litigation" session at GICLI's Ninth Annual Meeting, which will be held November 15 – 17, 2023, in California.
The panelists will discuss why strategies for settlement in these matters differ from typical litigation; how State Attorneys General can and usually do investigate companies before filing a lawsuit; how public policy concerns shape litigation; how discovery tools in State Attorney General cases diverge from the typical discovery tools and how FOIA requests can play a critical role; and how changes within State Attorneys General offices can affect the direction and pace of a suit. The panel will also analyze specific tactics for navigating these actions, including identification of the State Attorney General’s goals and how and when to meet with the State Attorney General's Office.
