CHICAGO Marisa Young has joined Troutman Pepper Locke’s Insurance Transactional and Regulatory Practice Group as a partner in the Chicago office. Young’s comprehensive complex regulatory, transactional, and reinsurance experience across the insurance sector will further enhance the firm’s capabilities.

Young joins Troutman Pepper Locke from McDermott Will & Emery. Her clients consist of major players in the insurance and financial sectors, including investment firms, insurance companies, insurance brokerage firms, managing general agents, and insurtech businesses. Young regularly advises financial and strategic buyers, sellers, and investors in connection with mergers, acquisitions, business formations, corporate restructurings, and other complex business transactions. In addition to her extensive transactional work, she advises on insurance regulatory compliance matters, drafting regulatory filings, and liaising with state insurance regulators regarding ongoing and potential transactions.

“Marisa is a dynamic and driven up-and-coming partner who excels across the regulatory, transactional, and reinsurance sectors, which will be extremely beneficial for our clients,” said Zachary Lerner, who chairs the firm’s Insurance Transactional and Regulatory Practice Group. “Her addition will significantly bolster our already strong insurance transactional bench.”

In addition to her passion for mentoring young lawyers, Young also maintains an active pro bono practice, dedicating her time to supporting initiatives like the Ascend Justice Domestic Violence project, which helps empower individuals and families impacted by gender-based violence and the child welfare system to achieve safety and stability. She also volunteers her time and legal services to support the Equip for Equality special education hotline, an organization that helps people with disabilities in Illinois advocate for their rights.

“Bringing Marisa on board aligns perfectly with our strategic goals of adding to the firm’s significant presence in Chicago and further enhancing our robust capabilities within the insurance industry,” said Andrea Verney Kerstein, Chicago office managing partner. “We are thrilled to have Marisa join us; her experience, fresh ideas, and enthusiasm for mentorship will greatly benefit our team and clients alike.”

“Joining Troutman Pepper Locke is a pivotal step for my practice given the firm’s long-standing commitment to serving all segments of the insurance industry,” remarked Young. “I look forward to contributing to our clients’ needs by leveraging the firm’s large and diverse insurance platform.”
