Louisiana has enacted House Bill 750, officially titled the Click-to-Cancel Act. The act applies broadly to any person conducting business in Louisiana that offers consumers an automatic renewal contract — defined as any paid subscription or purchasing agreement that renews automatically at the end of a definite term or on a recurring basis. AG of the Week
William Tong, Connecticut
William Tong is the 25th attorney general (AG) of Connecticut and has served in this role since 2019. He is currently in his second term and is the first Chinese American elected AG in the U.S., as well as the first Asian American elected to statewide office in Connecticut. As AG, he oversees a broad portfolio that includes consumer protection, civil rights enforcement, public safety, and complex multistate litigation. His office has played leading roles in efforts related to the opioid crisis, generic drug competition, data privacy and cybersecurity, social media and youth safety, and robocall enforcement.
Under Tong’s leadership, Connecticut resolved two of the state’s longest-running legal matters: the Sheff v. O’Neill school desegregation case, through a settlement providing sustained investments in educational opportunities for Hartford students, and long-standing federal court oversight of the Department of Children and Families, following documented improvements in services for vulnerable children.
Before becoming AG, Tong practiced for 18 years as a litigator in state and federal courts, working in both New York City and Stamford. He also served for 12 years in the Connecticut General Assembly as a state representative, where he chaired the Judiciary Committee and the Banking Committee and helped advance legislation on issues such as gun violence prevention and domestic violence.
A Connecticut native, Tong grew up in the Hartford area and worked in his family’s small business. He is a graduate of Phillips Academy Andover, Brown University, and the University of Chicago Law School. He lives in Stamford with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children.
