Troutman Pepper Partner Chris Browning Named Chair of ABA Judicial Division
RALEIGH, N.C. – Christopher Browning, a partner in Troutman Pepper’s Appellate and Supreme Court Practice Group, was recently named chair of the American Bar Association’s Judicial Division. He took office on Aug. 10 at the ABA’s Annual Meeting.
The ABA Judicial Division focuses on protecting and supporting other judges through practical training, education regarding technology, and resources outside the courthouse. It serves as the ABA’s home to judges, lawyers, tribal members, court administrators, academics, and students interested in the courts and the justice system.
Browning was appointed the first solicitor general of North Carolina in 2005 and held that position for seven years. His practice focuses on appellate law, complex commercial litigation, business torts, environmental disputes, and government relations. Before working for the state, Browning belonged to a trial team that handled one of the longest war crimes proceedings in history, a case tried in the Hague, Netherlands, before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He also has argued multiple times before the United States Supreme Court.
Browning is recognized by several industry authorities for his experience in appellate law including, Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America® and Super Lawyers North Carolina. He has taught appellate law at Duke University School of Law and has a law degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina.
